History of the SIT TESOL Certificate

- Donald Freeman was the CELTA Board and discussed starting a certificate at SIT in the same basic style
- 1997: First SIT Cert offered at the Brattleboro campus. Designed by Elizabeth Tannenbaum, Kathleen Graves, and Mike Jerald. Lani Wright was the first director of the TESOL Cert.
- 1997: The first two-week TOT took place on the Brattleboro campus. The TBTs consisted of Ron Bradley, Ellen Bradley, Alexis Johnson, Jeryl Julian, ???.
- 1999: In Sept, one course was offered in Grand Junction, CO by Ron and Ellen Bradley at their school, the Colorado International Education and Training Institute.
- 2000: In Feb, one course offered at Tokyo Jogakan (TJK). Wagner TOTed Josh and Brian. In July, the Kyoto Center opens (Brian and Josh) and offered courses till 2003.
- 2001: Trainer meeting at SIT in Brattleboro, VT. Created/adopted objectives for sessions.
- 2002: Brian Long became the director of the TESOL Cert in Brattleboro.
- 2002-2013: Ron and Ellen Bradley offered their second and third courses at Intrax Language School in San Francisco and Chicago and subsequently 3-4 times a year at Sonoma State University and De Paul University. And at the Canal Alliance in 2013. All courses took place under their non-profit Global TEFL in cooperation with SIT. Over the years, numerous trainers were engaged: Andriy Ruzhynskiy, Zheya Polosatova, Annie Polatsek, Justin Trullinger, Brian Long, Ivan Quinteros, Bill Kennedy, Jo Kennedy, Joah McKee, Susan Berry, Monica Dos Anjos, Sergei Nesterenko, Cindy Avenell.
- 2003: Co-validated Courses Offered in Boston and Kyoto (Ps received a CELTA and SIT Cert!)
- 2004: Ron and Ellen Bradley taught the first course at AUA Bankok, to open a new site in Thailand.
- 200?: Cert offered on a large scale in Brazil by Mary Scholl.
- 200?: Costa Rica site opened by Mary Scholl
- 2004: Barcelona site opened at Langage. (Susan Berry/Josh Kurzweil TOT) Jenn Gemma, David Donaldson.
- 2006: Josh and Mary publish "Understanding Learning Through Teaching" with McGraw Hill. Was going to be one of a 6-book series mirroring much the SIT Cert. The project fell through, but UTTL was completed and is available.
- 2006: Ron and Ellen Bradley taught the first course in Oaxaca, Mexico to open a new site for Gina Thurston.
- 2007: Berkeley Site opened by Josh Kurzweil and Jennifer Gemma.
