Online Resources
- Newsela. Has newspaper articles that can be adapted to different levels by choosing the lexile level on the right. Hint: Sign up as a parent to get access to the articles and you have minimal information that you need to put in.
- Tweentribune. Is produced by the Smithsonian and has articles very similar in style to Newsela with different lexile scores. You can sign up for free as a teacher. You can also search for topics using the search bar at the top.
- British Council has a nice collection of reading organized by 3 CEFR levels. They also have one more page listed by 4 levels here.
- Scholastic has a small collection of stories about teens at different levels. These stories also include audio so students and listen and follow along.
- Read Works. A free library of article (fiction and non-fiction) that you can search by topic and lexile score. You can also find articles with audio so that students can listen as they read.
- News in Levels. This website is updated regularly and has short articles at 3 different levels.
- Breaking News English has short articles at different levels. The articles tend to be a bit more 'timeless.'
- Lexile Analyzer. This is a free online tool that allows you to check the lexile score of a text you want to use with a class. You can also look up the lexile score for books and see how lexile scores correspond to grade levels. You can sign up for free on the website. Keep in mind that to check the lexile score of a text you need to first save it as 'plain text' which is an option in Microsoft Word. Lastly, this document from ETS offers a correspondence scale to CEFR levels at the lower levels.
